Chapin High Choir Syllabus
Choir at Chapin high school is an opportunity for young people to explore different styles and genres of music. We perform music from the Renaissance period (dated 1500-1650) through 20th Century Pop and Rock and Roll music.
SACRED(RELIGIOUS) MUSIC WILL BE STUDIED AND PERFORMED. Renaissance period music was composed mostly for the Church and sung a cappella (no instrumental accompaniment). The Choral and Sigh-reading a competition in May and the Solo and Ensemble festival require one a cappella piece of music every year. This style of music is never ignored, but strictly studied historically only. NEVER WILL RELIGION MUSIC BECOME OPEN DISCUSSION WITHIN THE CLASSROOM
The purpose of choir is to:
1. To develop an appreciation for all styles of music: new, old, traditional, sacred and secular.
2. To become a risk taking musician, one who is creative and expressive.
Becoming a musician is a lifelong process and can be achieved within a large ensemble setting or as a soloist.
CONCERTS: Concerts are a public sharing of our accomplishments and a communication of emotion through the musical language. Since concerts are an extension of the classroom, all performances are mandatory. Your attendance is part of the grading criteria. Concerts must be a group effort!!! Students are expected to mark dates on their calendar immediately and make every effort to avoid conflicts. However, special circumstances will be recognized.
